It is not coincidental that some makers of blood sugar meters also create the ability for the meter to measure blood pressure. Two common health problems associated with diabetes are high blood pressure and heart disease. Studies have shown that you can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease linked to diabetes by keeping your blood sugar under control most of the time. One important measure of that control is the hemoglobin A1c test (also called A1c.).
There are five blood sugar meters that also include the option to test your blood pressure. Each has a slightly different design. These glucose meters still use test strips to measure blood sugar levels. The blood pressure is measured by a cuff that is either attached to the meter or connects to it. The cuff will inflate in a similar way that you are accustomed to and will display your reading on the same screen you view your blood sugar results.
All five of the dual glucose and blood pressure meters offer the option to download your test results to a computer. Four of the five can also “speak” the results audibly for those with vision impairments.
