Islet cell transplants are here now

These stories are all very exciting and offer hope for the future. But what about including a story about research that is already successful and available in the form of clinical trials. Islet cell transplants offer an escape from needing insulin. A very high percentage of patients do not require insulin for several years. Immunsosuppression is required, but is much easier to tolerate than insulin and its complications. For live testimonials to this, look into the the facebook page "Islet Cell Transplant Recipients". Also this year, a Diabetes Transplant Summit was sponsored by the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation that included stories and information. http://www.diabeteswellness.net/Events/tabid/140/View/true/ParentId/233/Default.aspx
