From the article: Low Blood Sugar Awareness
Low blood sugar awareness is a vital part of managing our diabetes. Yet, you can lose your sensitivity to low blood sugar symptoms if your blood sugar is high. Most people rely heavily on their ability to sense a low sugar level coming so that they can either check their blood or treat it. How sensitive are you to the early signs of a low blood sugar?
This Is A Genetic Disorder In My Family
- My father had this disorder and myself and brother have it also. I get all the usual symptoms when I go without food for too long. It is very important for people who have low blood sugar tendencies to eat at least 3 meals a day and also take healthy snacks in between. For me, I always eat a huge oatmeal dish for breakfast that usually lasts 5-6 hours before I feel hungry again. When I was younger such as when I was in college, I would skip breakfast and by 11:00am, I would be extremely nervous, short tempered, and sometimes would get a headache. People did not like to be around me until after several minutes after eating lunch. Today, thankfully I am much more aware of the problem and know how to deal with it. For those people hating oatmeal, you should work to get over it and experiment like I have in different recipes that you will like. I feel oatmeal is one of the best breakfasts out there expecially for hypoglycemics.

Low Blood Sugar Awareness
- My daughter has been experiencing severe lows at night and been unaware. We have to check on her every night now and give her extra carbs before she goes to bed. Yet she is still having the 'dawn phenomenon'. Very scarey!
